Opinion: Food systems harm people and planet. Here is how we fix that
Fixing the global food system requires a diverse set of solutions tailored to different geographic, economic, and cultural contexts. While global commitments have been made, progress is slow, and food systems continue to drive climate change, health crises, and economic inequities, generating nearly $12 trillion in hidden costs annually.
To create lasting change, we must improve data collection, enhance transparency, and mobilize private investment through innovative funding models that de-risk food system investments. With an estimated $4.5 trillion in business opportunities, aligning financial incentives with sustainable practices can drive equitable, climate-resilient, and nutrition-focused food systems transformation.
