Cedric Habiyaremye, PhD

Cedric is the Food Systems Policy Director at Food Systems for the Future (FSF), where he leads policy development and advocacy efforts to promote sustainable, equitable, and resilient global food systems through multi-stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, and evidence-based solutions. Prior to this role, he led several global agricultural research and development projects at Washington State University. He is the scientist who introduced Quinoa to Rwanda and some other African countries. His leadership and innovative approaches to community development and the fight against hunger around the world have garnered numerous accolades, including the prestigious World Hunger Leadership Award in 2018. Cedric also collaborated with Harvard University on developing the first-ever global diet quality monitoring system and contributed to high-impact research projects with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). He also served as the youngest member of the Global Agriculture Task Force of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, a fellow for the US Borlaug Fellowship on Global Food Security, a fellow for the Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program, and a fellow for the Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development.

Cedric is currently a member of the Aspen Strategy Group Rising Leaders Program, a member of the Private Sector Mechanism to the United Nations Committee on World Food Security, and a New Voices Senior Fellow at the Aspen Institute. He holds an MS and Ph.D. in Agronomy and Crop Science from Washington State University, a BS in Agricultural Science with Honors in Irrigation and Drainage, and an Advanced Diploma in Soil and Water Management from the University of Rwanda.
